The Breckenridge Music Festival is pleased to present the 2010 30th Season Finale Concert on Friday August 20th at 7:30pm at the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge, showcasing the artists of the Festival Orchestra as soloists: Performing with the full Festival Orchestra under Maestro Gerhardt Zimmermann, flutist Helen Blackburn, Harpist Megan Stout; Pianist Michael Linville; and percussionist Drew Lang will be featured in performances of Hanson’s Serenade for Flute and Harp, Khachaturian’s Piano Concerto in D-Flat and Ewazen’s Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra. The evening will close with Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, with the Festival Orchestra.
Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra Principal Flutist Helen Blackburn is also principal flutist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and a member of “Voices of Change.” Ms. Blackburn has been a member and a featured soloist with the South Bohemia and Aspen Music Festivals, the Dallas Chamber Orchestra, the Brevard (NC) Music Center, and the Chicago Civic Orchestra. Ms. Blackburn is adjunct professor of flute at Texas Christian University and the University of North Texas. Helen is a certified Bikram Yoga instructor, an avid dog lover and enjoys hiking and most things outdoors.
Harpist Megan Stout is active as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral harpist in the IN area. She is principal harpist for the Evansville Philharmonic (IN), Owensboro Symphony (KY), and is a regular second harpist at the St Louis Symphony as well as a substitute for the principal position. Megan substitutes at the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and the Indianapolis Symphony. She has recently been featured in performances in Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffman with the Opera Theatre of St Louis. In addition to her private teaching studio, Megan is a faculty member at Indiana University Southeast.
Percussionist Drew Lang performs in the Dallas and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras, Dallas Opera Orchestra, Dallas Wind Symphony and Casa Mañana Musicals. He has recently been featured performing Bodine’s Concerto for Marimba and Band at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, and in the world premier of Bodine’s “Namaste: Concerto for Marimba and Percussion Ensemble.” An active drum set/percussionist in jazz clubs, contemporary church services, and symphonic pops, he plays in the Dallas-based rock band, Scarlet Vermillion. Drew is in his seventh season at the Breckenridge Music Festival. He teaches percussion and drum set at Eastfield College, is on the percussion faculty at Southern Methodist University, and runs a summer high school camp called MARIMBA MADNESS.
Michael Linville is currently Associate Dean and Director of Chamber Music Activities for the New World Symphony, and artistic coordinator of the New World Percussion Consort, performing contemporary chamber music featuring percussion. As a soloist, Mr. Linville has performed with the San Francisco Symphony, the New World Symphony, the Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra, the National Repertory Orchestra, and the Atchison, KS and Central Iowa Symphonies. He has been guest artist with the Honolulu and Pasadena Symphonies, and was a featured keyboardist with the Florida Philharmonic. His playing can be heard on a number of recordings including White Mares of the Moon-Chamber Music of Dan Welcher, which Mr. Linville also produced.
