Champagne Concerts of chamber music in private homes around Summit County have long been a popular feature of the Breckenridge Music Festival summer season. The combination of music, a lovely setting and the chance to mingle informally with other music enthusiasts and with the musicians makes these events Festival highlights for many of the Breckenridge Music Festival’s summer Champagne Concert patrons.

Transpose that glass of champagne, congenial atmosphere and wonderful music to a snowy winter evening in front of a fireplace in the welcoming home of a gracious Summit County host and hostess, and you can enjoy our first Winter Champagne Concert. Champagne concerts include a glass of champagne and light hors d’oeuvres preceding the performance, and dessert following.

Summer Festival artists Michael Linville and Megan and James Holland bring their collaborative musical partners Benjamin Tomkins and Robyn Julyan for our first intimate Winter Champagne evening.

When a group of friends who play stringed instruments gathers, it is only a matter of time before someone pulls out a book of string quartets, and an afternoon or evening of musical enjoyment is underway. Composers through the centuries have used the string quartet form to create some of their most personal expressions, from poignant to light-hearted and playful. This rich body of literature is as irresistible for performers as it is enjoyable for audiences.

The evening’s program will include  the ‘father of the string quartet,’ Franz Josef Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 77 No. 1 in G Major, Ravel’s only String Quartet, a masterpiece produced when he was a student, and Puccini’s intimate little gem titled “Chrisantemi (Chrysanthemums).”

This evening’s gathering of musical friends includes Summer Festival Orchestra concertmaster Nathan Olson, co-concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Olson brings guest cellist Ian Jones to join Festival Orchestra artists Meghan Jones and Matthew Carrington.

A former star football fullback, bass-baritone Keith Miller is one of opera’s hottest rising young stars. The singer, who matches a steely determination with a commanding stage presence, has thrived in both worlds, going from the gridiron to one of opera’s most prestigious stages, the Metropolitan Opera. In less than five years as a professional singer, Miller has put his stamp on operatic productions old and new, appearing in 200 performances in increasingly bigger roles at the Metropolitan Opera.

Lyric Soprano Kara Guggenmos has quickly become a Colorado favorite. She and Mr. Miller have collaborated in several operatic endeavors, including with Ms. Guggenmos the role of MIMI in LA BOHEME with Opera Fort Collins in 2008, and as SUSANNA in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO with the Crested Butte Music Festival in 2009.
Ms. Guggenmos has been a Metropolitan Opera National Council regional finalist and district winner.

Debra Ayers performs extensively as a recitalist with singers, instrumentalists, and chamber music ensembles. She is a member of Taos Trio, and co-founder/pianist of MONTAGE Music Society. Her recordings include a critically acclaimed MONTAGE Music Society Recording, STARRY NIGHT Project.

Inviting all Summit County Vocalists!

Participate in a performance designed to create an enjoyable, excellent choral performance within a limited time frame. This concert is for singers who want a satisfying musical experience, whose schedules allow a limited rehearsal commitment.

The concert, “From Bach to the Beatles,” will include programming for choir from the incomparable sacred music of J. S. Bach to choral composers including Gabriel Fauré and John Rutter, and on to the Beatles.

The performance will be under the direction of Dr. Linda Shea, Director of Instrumental Music of the Summit High School music department, and will feature keyboardist Leonard Rhodes on organ, piano and harpsichord.

Interested singers may attend one or both music introduction sessions, where singers will gather for half-hour sessions with Len and Linda to sing through some of the music as vocal sections. These sessions will offer potential participants a chance to ascertain the level of difficulty and degree of individual preparation required.
