“From Bach to the Beatles”

Sunday, November 13, 2011

4:00 PM

Lord of the Mountains Church, Dillon

Inviting all Summit County Vocalists!

Participate in a performance designed to create an enjoyable, excellent choral performance within a limited time frame. This concert is for singers who want a satisfying musical experience, whose schedules allow a limited rehearsal commitment.

The concert, “From Bach to the Beatles,” will include programming for choir from the incomparable sacred music of J. S. Bach to choral composers including Gabriel Fauré and John Rutter, and on to the Beatles.

The performance will be under the direction of Dr. Linda Shea, Director of Instrumental Music of the Summit High School music department, and will feature keyboardist Leonard Rhodes on organ, piano and harpsichord.

Interested singers may attend one or both music introduction sessions, where singers will gather for half-hour sessions with Len and Linda to sing through some of the music as vocal sections. These sessions will offer potential participants a chance to ascertain the level of difficulty and degree of individual preparation required. There will be four three-hour rehearsals, leading to the November 13 performance.

Texan singer-songwriter, Robert Earl Keen is by far one the most successful artist that many Americans have never heard. He’s had his songs recorded by George Strait, Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, the Dixie Chicks and the Highwaymen (Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash & Kris Kristofferson), had Garth Brooks mention his music in one of his own songs, and played concert venues steadily for more than 20 years for audiences that number sometimes as many as 25,000.

Keen’s albums continue to receive critical acclaim and success. Keen’s latest studio album, What I Really Mean, topped #1 on the AAA charts and charted as the number two American album for all of 2005. The Washington Post called it “another terrific disc…a fine choice for those searching for country music with character and authenticity.”
