“A Leap of Faith” – Conquering the Snows of Kilimanjaro

March 4, 2012
5:00 pmto8:00 pm

PLEASE NOTE: This Event has been rescheduled from its original date of February 5th (Superbowl Sunday) to March 4th at 5:00pm.

If you have already sent in your money and have a conflict on March 4th, please let us know and you will be refunded.

When 11 Summit County ladies, ages 56 to 78 (average age of 66-1/2), decided to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, the fourth-highest of the Seven Summits and the highest peak on the African continent, many doubted that all would reach the summit. They proceeded to prove all naysayers wrong! ALL summited and their route of ascent was considered most challenging by their trusty guides.

Join this intrepid and inspirational band of female adventurers at the Breckenridge CMC for a video presentation, followed by a question and answer session, to find out all you ever wanted to know about their unforgettable adventure and the magical draw of this lofty peak. Then head to the lovely Breckenridge home of climber Karen Hynds, where “the ladies” have prepared an East African/Tanzanian repast sure to tickle your taste buds. Delicate curries, stews, bean, rice and cornmeal dishes, chapati (East African bread) and lots of fresh vegetables and exotic fruits are staples of traditional Tanzanian meals. Fortunate diners are in for a tasty treat. Of course, you’ll also have more opportunities to meet, mingle and chat with these very special women about their adventure of a lifetime.

You go, girls!

Starlight, Star Bright – All the Stars Come Out Tonight!

January 27, 2012
6:30 pmto9:30 pm

Don’t miss this star-studded event featuring the unforgettable music of Jim Salestrom! The Emmy Award winning singer, song-writer, gifted guitarist and seasoned performer continues to touch the hearts of all who hear his music. Through the years he has performed with such stellar artists as John Denver, Kenny Rogers, and Dolly Parton, performed at the White House for four U.S. Presidents, and at the Supreme Court for his special friend, Sandra Day O’Connor. His music has taken him all over the world, but he is always true to the Rocky Mountains, Summit County and his beloved Breckenridge.

Right now he is having “the time of his life,” having been on Dolly Parton’s Better Day World Tour since this past summer. Jim and his good friend, talented composer, pianist, conductor and Entertainment Director of the Broadmoor Hotel, Ken Miller, are looking forward to performing for their many Summit County friends supporting the BMF.

The perfect venue for this star-studded evening is the spectacular home of gracious hosts, Sara and Rich Wrenn. There, pre-concert guests will enjoy a fabulous buffet of taste-tempting treats. Yum! And, of course, the appropriate beverages will accompany this bountiful feast.

Party #8 – “We’re off to see the Wizard”

August 5, 2011
3:00 pmto6:00 pm

Party #8

“We’re off to see the Wizard”

You probably have all seen (and enjoyed many times!) the 1939 classic movie, “The Wizard of Oz.”  Who can forget its many memorable characters – Judy Garland as Dorothy, Bert Lahr and Ray Bolger as the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Man, the marvelous little munchkins and the very evil Wicked Witch of the West.  Most people don’t realize that although Wizard was indeed a children’s story, it had a much deeper allegorical meaning too.  Author L. Frank Baum was one of the most renown political commentators of his time and Wizard is actually about one of the most difficult political and economic periods in our history.  (Sound familiar?!)  Finally, you will learn how the story also speaks to a very important era in Summit County’s past.  Come hear Rick Hague, our local and very knowledgeable historian, regale you with this fascinating story, all in living sound and color!  Post this exciting program, “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” to the charming Breckenridge homes and contiguous back yards of Mary Lou Johns and John Rynes and Karen and Ted Dreier.  There, a real down-home, Kansas-style picnic supper will tempt all guests with hearty fare straight from down on the farm.

But as Dorothy said to Toto, “This isn’t Kansas anymore!”

Date: Friday, August 5th at 3:00 pm

Hosts: Mary Lou Johns and John Rynes      (847) 676-0346
