Summit Daily News Article: Add your voice to ‘From Bach to Beatles’

Even if you don’t know whether you’re a bass, tenor, alto or soprano (quick cram: If you’re male and can sing pretty low, you might be a bass and if you can sing pretty high, you might be a tenor; for females, its soprano for high notes and alto for low), as long as you can read music and can commit to four half-day rehearsals, Len Rhodes and Linda Shea want to see you tonight or Saturday morning for an introduction to what may be the largest community choral performance put together (and disbanding) in less than a two-month time frame.

The rehearsals culminate in a performance Nov. 13 at Lord of the Mountain Church in Dillon. Leonard Rhodes, director of music at the church, and Linda Shea, director of instrumental music at Summit High School, will work with participants to interpret programming including the sacred music of J.S. Bach, compositions by Gabriel Fauré, Igor Stravinsky and John Rutter, Broadway tunes and a Beatles medley. Click here to read more

Summit Daily News Article: The ultimate Summit County cookbook

The title says it all: The ULTIMATE Summit County Cookbook.

It is not a good idea to peruse “Entertaining! Summit Style” — the 2010 cookbook and masterpiece of collaboration by some of the best local culinary talents created by Applause! as a fundraiser for the Breckenridge Music Festival — on an empty stomach.

The 219-page color hardcover cookbook is a class act that lends itself to an attractive coffee table display as much as it does to being a go-to guide for Summit County cookery. It is organized by seasons and local traditions, which are in turn described lovingly in sidebars and illustrated with photographs by Linda and John Mirro and Bob Winsett on every page. The layout by McGraphix Creative is whimsical and fresh and gives the book the sophisticated feel creators were going for. Click here to read more
