Road Scholar
Behind the Scenes at a World-Class Music Event
Breckenridge Music Festival has a long-running and popular education program for life-long learners, originally offered through the international organization, Elderhostel. In recognition of the ever-younger nature of the retired population taking part in its programs, in 2010 “Road Scholar” became the new name for the Adventures in Lifelong Learning programs offered by Elderhostel, Inc.
At the Breckenridge Music Festival’s “Behind the Scenes at a World-Class Music Event,” participants attend the summer music festival while learning what it takes to produce an event of this caliber. They go behind the scenes with the conductor, Maestro Gerhardt Zimmermann, sit in on interactive seminars with the musicians and ask questions of the production and administrative staff during private meetings.
Participants have opportunities to learn about the orchestra and repertoire. They tour the performance venue, witness backstage preparations and attend rehearsals, chamber music and orchestral concerts.
Various extra-musical activities are also offered. Choices include museums and tours exploring the history of Breckenridge, the charming old Western mining town that has transformed itself into a premier resort destination, framed by the majestic backdrop of the Rockies.
This year’s 2011 Breckenridge Music Festival Road Scholar program will be held August 1st through August 6th. Click Here to learn more and sign up!
