Festival Orchestra

Key to our summer festival, the Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra is a chamber orchestra of forty-five to fifty players, in residence for five weeks in July and August. It is under the artistic direction of principal conductor Gerhardt Zimmermann. Orchestra members perform in programs of chamber music as well as orchestral concerts. Orchestral concerts contain varied programming which includes orchestral standard literature, pops and vocal settings, and specialty programs such as all-brass, Baroque or choral works.

Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra members are drawn from symphonies across the nation. A partial list of home orchestras of recent orchestra members include the Dallas Opera, Dallas Chamber, Dallas Symphony, Chicago Civic, Honolulu Symphony, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Columbus (OH) Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic, Omaha Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Milwaukie Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Toronto Symphony, IRIS Chamber, New Mexico Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Chamber, St. Louis Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, San Diego Symphony and New World Symphony orchestras.

While many orchestra members return annually, there are openings by audition in various positions each year. Auditioned openings generally occur between December and March for the summer season following. An audition generally consists of a resume and CD containing a solo of performer’s choice, orchestral excerpts and chamber music recordings, but specific positions may have specific audition requirements. Please see specifications below for openings and auditions for the 2012 summer season.

For information about orchestra openings and auditions, contact Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra personnel manager and librarian, Michael G. Koscso at bmilibrarian@aol.com
