Music in the Schools
The Breckenridge Music Festival’s educational outreach program, Music In the Schools, offers students in
Summit, Grand and Park counties classical and traditional performing arts experiences to expand and enrich the arts
curriculum in the schools.
Music In the Schools works to support arts education as a critical component of educational excellence for children pre-K through 12. Musical participation has been proven to nourish the creative process in learning and add to many creative problem-solving skills that transfer into all areas of learning and living. Arts enrichment familiarizes students with our cultural heritage in our various arts disciplines.
Music In the Schools has several focus areas:
Performing Artists in the Schools: regional elementary schools are provided with school-wide assembly performances and related workshop sessions during the school year. Jazz, opera, dance and many other performing arts experiences are represented in these assemblies.
Artist in Residence: performing artists are in-residence at a school for a block of time. Working closely with teachers to enhance the programs already offered in the schools, the residency provides enriching arts experiences for each student. A final performance for parents and the community allows the students to share what they have created with the resident artist.
Winter Concert Series Master Classes: visiting artists performing in the Winter Concert Series provide workshops for students in the band, orchestra, choral and musical theatre classes at the middle schools and high schools in the three counties.
Through the Music In the Schools program, the Breckenridge Music Festival works to cultivate the next generation of music audiences and arts patrons.
Music In the Schools is supported by grants from The Summit Foundation and the Lenzmeier-Williams Advised Fund.
