Summer Series
Each summer the Breckenridge Music Festival presents a diverse series of musical experiences in its Summer Series.
The flagship program of the five-week Summer Festival is the orchestral series at the Riverwalk Center: ten orchestral and seven smaller format concerts, including chamber music, Baroque, cabaret and all-brass programs. Orchestral programming ranges from large orchestral works, choral and opera aria programs to themed concerts such as “South of the Border” or “A Tribute to Breckenridge and the Old West.”
Venue: The Riverwalk Center
The focal point for summer activities is the Riverwalk Center, an award-winning performing arts facility set in the heart of the historic Town of Breckenridge. The Riverwalk Center is part of the Blue River Restoration Project, embarked on by the Town of Breckenridge in 1992.
Prior to 1992, the banks of the Blue River and its surroundings were heaped piles of rock, the results of dredge mining during the Breckenridge gold rush days. The Restoration Project created the Blue River Walkway and the Riverwalk Center amphitheater, adding native landscaping to offer a beautiful setting for picnics, special events or simply relaxing along the banks of the river. The Riverwalk Center was built as a tiered amphitheater covered by a large white, domed tent, which was erected before the start of each season and removed in the fall. The tent structure was similar in appearance to the roof of the Denver International Airport.
During 2007/2008 winter season, a permanent roof and walls were erected and other facility improvements were made to the existing amphitheater structure. The completed Riverwalk Center facility substantially enhances the concert patron and performer experience. Improved acoustics, temperature control and lighting are the added benefits, while a wall of six large, clear doors maintains the unique connection to the outside environment which made the original Riverwalk Center amphitheater so special.
Free parking is available adjacent to the Riverwalk Center. Pets of any kind are strictly prohibited at any Riverwalk Center event. Theatre doors open one-half hour prior to the show. Cameras and recording equipment are strictly prohibited. Patrons are prohibited from bringing food or alcoholic beverages into the Riverwalk Center. Soft drinks, alcoholic beverages and light snacks are available for purchase at each event.
Although the Riverwalk Center is a heated amphitheater, evenings at 9600 feet in elevation are cool. For your comfort, we suggest taking this into consideration. Casual dress is welcome at Riverwalk Center concerts and events. No smoking is allowed in the building or amphitheater. For more information about the Riverwalk Center, please call (970) 547-3100.
