Bios of the Musicians:
Elizabeth Hainen has won international acclaim as one of today’s foremost harpists. Hailed by the Washington Post for her “unusual presence with silky transparency”, she has charmed audiences as a recitalist and concerto soloist throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and South America. Engagements include the Chicago Civic Orchestra, the Mexico State Symphony, the John F. Kennedy Center Orchestra, New World Symphony, and The Philadelphia Orchestra, in addition to performances with the Paris Opera Ballet and Vienna Boys Choir. An active chamber musician, Ms. Hainen has performed at the Festivals of Grand Tetons, Kingston, Marlboro, Sachsisch Bohmisches and the World Harp Congress. She has collaborated as soloist with such eminent conductors as Charles Dutoit, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Wolfgang Sawallisch. Elizabeth is currently the principal harpist for the Philadelphia Orchestra
Jeffrey Khaner joined the Philadelphia Orchestra as Principal Flute in 1990 following his Principal position with the Cleveland Orchestra from 1982 to 1990. As a soloist, Jeffrey Khaner has appeared with the Montreal Symphony, the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, the Mostly Mozart Festival, and on numerous occasions, with the Cleveland and Philadelphia Orchestras.
A graduate and faculty member of the Julliard School, where he studied with Julius Baker, Jeffrey Khaner has been a faculty member of the Curtis Institute of Music since 1985. He has given masterclasses and recitals throughout North, South, and Central America, Europe and Asia. Mr. Khaner has also participated as a performer and teacher at the Solti Orchestral Project in Carnegie Hall, the Grand Teton Festival, the Pacific Music Festival, and the Saratoga Music Festival. Jeffrey Khaner is a Yamaha artist and clinician.
David DePeters has been performing with The Philadelphia Orchestra as a fourth percussionist for 18 seasons and has held titles of Percussion with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Percussion/Associate Principal Timpani with the Buffalo Philharmonic. He also regularly performs with The New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra, Philadelphia Opera Company and the IRIS Orchestra, under the direction of Michael Stern.
Mr. DePeters’ chamber music activities have included Music in the Great Hall, Network for New Music, Philadelphia Orchestra Chamber Concert Series and the Saxony Bohemia Music Festival in Germany. Mr. DePeters was a founding member of the Curtis Percussion Quartet and has arranged and performed original works throughout the United States and at France’s Evian Music Festival. Mr. DePeters appeared in and recorded the soundtrack to Martin Scorsese’s Age of Innocence and has made numerous recordings with major orchestras under Deutsche Grammophone, London, EMI and Telarc record labels.
